Cal embarked on his hockey journey at the tender age of three when his mother introduced him to the ice. He honed his skills with the Minuteman Flames in Marlboro, MA, and later showcased his talent at Noble and Greenough School, where he captained the varsity team during his junior year. For his senior year, he transitioned to the USHL, joining the Cedar Rapids Roughriders and leading them to an Anderson Cup in his second year as team captain.

 

Cal continued his hockey career at the University of Notre Dame, where he played for four years, earning a degree in Business Analytics. During his time at Notre Dame, he achieved remarkable success, including two Frozen Four appearances (freshman and sophomore years), a national championship runner-up (sophomore year), two BIG 10 championships (sophomore and junior year), and ultimately being named team captain his senior year. Additionally, Cal was a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award his senior year.

 

Post-graduation in 2020, Cal signed with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL, where he played for parts of four seasons and was appointed Assistant Captain in his fourth year. In December 2021, he signed an NHL contract with the Colorado Avalanche and made his NHL debut in December 2022. In the fall of 2023, Cal was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he soon made his debut. Cal currently plays with the Vegas Golden Knight organization and celebrated his first NHL goal against Montreal on Nov. 23rd.

 

On the ice, Cal is celebrated for his exceptional speed, quickness, and skillful edge work, along with his reliability, tenacity, and puck control. Off the ice, his leadership is evident, as he has been named captain or assistant captain on every team he has played with for an extended period. He leads by example through his commitment to daily improvement in practice, off-ice fitness, nutrition, and study.

 

Cal's support system includes his loving wife, Peyton, and their two children.
